Research is an inevitable component of any academic endeavour and hence the undergraduate medical curriculum gives much emphasis on improving the research capabilities of young medical students. At present, students take up independent and collaborative research projects as part of their academic programme. But on close observation, we found that there is much scope for improvement of the research skills of medical students across the country and the quality of research work done by them. This could be facilitated only by providing them with an appropriate forum where they can present their research findings, share their experience and interact with other researchers and resource persons. Hence the theme for the present year was Undergraduate Research: Promises and Prospects. We hope this platform will help in fostering genuine interest and right attitude among young medical professionals, which shall eventually snowball into a research culture and evidence based medical practice. |
