“In the past, India had shown her greatness in the fields of scholarship, philosophy and science; but today, we are helplessly dependent on Western countries for the knowledge of science. India should not be a camp follower, but a leader in science. It is of no use getting our ideas from the West. We have to think out our problems and find the solutions to them.” The legendary C.V. Raman’s remarks are amazingly relevant even today despite India’s rapid development in science and technology.
In the context of changing public health scenario, the balancing of research efforts between different competing fields, especially when resources are severely limited, is a typical problem encountered in the management of medical research, particularly in developing countries.
In addition to major priorities like infectious diseases and excessive population growth, research has been intensified progressively on emerging health problems like cardiovascular diseases, mental health problems, cancer, drug abuse, disabilities, etc.
Hence we have chosen the theme "Towards a Healthier India" for the Second NAtional Conference.
