WORKSHOP ON CASE CONTROL STUDIES

The Department of Community Medicine, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram conducted a two day workshop on Case Control Studies on the 7th and 8th of December, 2005 for Postgraduate students and Junior faculty members who are pursuing the streams of Community Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health. The workshop will consisted of interactive lectures, individual and group works and hands on training in statistical computer programs. The sessions were led by faculties from the department and invited special guests.

The participants sharpened their acumen in the following areas during the wokshop: Selection of Cases, Selection of Controls, Exposure Assessment, Questionnaire preparation, Defining the criteria for Case and control selection, Choosing the appropriate subtype of Design for a given situation, Dealing with biases in Case Control Study, Matching in Case Control Studies, Analysis – Chi – square test, Uni-variate Analysis, Calculating Odds Ratios & 95%Confidence Intervals, Multivariate Stratification, Logistic Regression, Analysis of Matched and Paired Data, Sample Size Calculation, Critical Review and Using Statistical Computer Packages.
